CHARLOTTE -- Last month's mayoral election was historic for the City of Charlotte as voters elected the first black woman to become the Queen City's mayor, Vi Lyles.

On Monday, Lyles' daughter, Aisha Alexander, shared a post on Twitter which talked about her grandfather, who got to vote for the recently sworn-in Lyles in the historic election.

The tweet read, "My grandfather is a 96 year old Charlotte native. He wasnt the allowed to vote until he was 44 years old when the Voting Rights Act passed. This year, he voted for my mom @ViLyles who became the 1st Black woman elected to the office of mayor of Charlotte. #MondayMotivation."
