KURE BEACH, N.C.-- One coastal attraction spent the day catering to kids with learning disorders.

The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher hosted their 'Autism Friendly Day' on Sunday.

Kids got the chance to not only see the sea creatures, but also visit different vendors offering sensory and motor skill activities.

Those in attendance of the event wanted to give parents a chance to all their kids to run free in a calm environment.

"So the Aquarium really cares about bringing the community together and having these events and a lot of individuals with special needs are really interested in the aquarium and interested in wild life and nature and so its kinds of the perfect match to have these opportunities," says Special Activities Instructor Erin Gross.

One parent who attended, Ed White, with his son, Donald, were happy to see places like the aquarium offering these kids of events.

"Somethings indoors that are a little structured are a little harder so it’s nice when there's days like this when you know it’s kind of just, they can let loose and have fun," mention White.

The event included a dive program, guest guide passports and a calm room for families.
