ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. – The Little League World Series Championship team from Rowan County is celebrating their win in Washingdon, D.C. with a trip to the White House to meet President Donald Trump.

  • The team won the series back in August
  • Head coach Steve Yang tweeted the president asking for a visit
  • The team is expected to arrive back in Statesville Friday night

The players won the series in Oregon in August and they've received a lot of attention since they arrived back to Rowan County. But before takeoff, excitement filled the tarmac at Statesville Regional Airport. Victory Airlines took the team at no cost.

They first met with local senators Thom Tillis and Richard Burr when they arrived and are set to head to the Oval Office and take a picture with the president.

“I’ve never been to the White House. I’ve never seen the president before. It’s really cool and it’s the best opportunity I could ever have. It’s like a once in a lifetime opportunity,” catcher Emma Raecline said.

A once in a lifetime opportunity that wouldn’t have come to life if it weren’t for head coach Steve Yang's decision to tweet President Trump, asking for an invite. He hoped for the same invite the Little League baseball team received when they won their championship.

"I get more joy out of watching them as young ladies than soft ball players. For them to be here, learn, and just experience one of life’s lessons they’ll never experience again is really exciting to me as a coach," Yang said.

The team is expected to arrive back in Statesville Friday night.
