John Curtis Anderson, 42, climbed a fence at the minimum custody portion of the facility and ran away, officials say. Prior to his escape, officials say Anderson was last seen around 10:15 a.m.

Few details were released regarding his capture, but the Department of Public Safety did say he was taken into custody hours after his escape. According to a release, Anderson was found in a wooded area roughly three miles from the prison.

Prison officials say Anderson, a Cleveland County native, arrived at the facility on July 9 and was serving a 2 years and 10 month sentence for identity theft and fraud.

He was scheduled to be released on January 16, 2022, but officials say he will now face additional charges related to his escape.

Anderson has also been moved to a higher security facility.
