SURRY COUNTY, N.C. — A North Carolina program is helping children and teens cope with grief.

Each year, Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care hosts a grief camp for young people who have experienced a significant loss in their life.

What You Need To Know

  • Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care hosts a grief camp each summer

  • Kids participate in therapeutic activities and games

  • The program has been in place for over a decade

Kids participate in therapeutic activities, arts, crafts and games to connect with those dealing with the same trauma.

“Sometimes in grief, kids don’t have the words to share their experience. Sometimes in grief, they’re with adults who may not know how to help them with their experience and how to name and talk through their emotions," counselor Katie Moser said. "So today, with other children who look like them, act like them, and have similar feelings and emotions, is very therapeutic for them.”

The grief camp is an extension of Mountain Valley Hospice's Kids Path Program. The program has been in place for over a decade.
