CHARLOTTE, N.C. — History was made Sunday at Bank of America Stadium.
Maia Chaka took to the field as the first Black woman to referee an NFL game. She was the line judge for the Carolina Panthers’ win against the New York Jets.
The Panthers brought in a win during that game 19 to 14 during week one.
Before this career highlight, Chaka was a health and physical education instructor in Virginia. She has been training for the NFL since 2014.
She's the second woman to become an NFL official after Sarah Thomas.
