MORRISVILLE, N.C. — A "public safety incident" prompted a law enforcement response at the Raleigh-Durham International Airport Tuesday evening.

The airport said the investigation began around 5 p.m. The parking garage was closed while authorities conducted a search of the area, however, officials have not said what they were searching for.

Shortly after 7 p.m., the airport tweeted that guests could return to their vehicles and arriving travelers could resume use of the parking garages.

"We appreciate guests’ patience as we worked quickly to complete the search," RDU officials said in a statement.

The airport had posted a message to Twitter around 6:21 p.m. saying the parking deck was temporarily closed and asked guests to remain inside the terminals. Anyone arriving at the airport was also rerouted to a different lot.
