CARY, N.C. — The last couple of years have been full of canceled or postponed concerts, leaving fans frustrated and disappointed.

One Cary couple waited years to finally see a Michael Buble concert. The devoted fans had no idea what they were in for.

Peter Swenson says his love for music began in the 1950s with Elvis Presley and has not wavered since. He keeps a booklet of concert tickets he's assembled over the years.

“Brings me back. I think of the good times that we had," Swenson said.

In late October, Swenson and his wife, Lee, went to PNC Arena for a Michael Buble concert which had been postponed three times due to COVID-19.

When it was finally a go, they arrived at PNC with their $250 a piece tickets in hand, only to be denied entry.

"We went to the box office and they told us after a quite a while that we had been scammed, that someone else had been sitting in our seats," Swenson said. “Quite frankly, we were bummed out."

After leaving the arena, they thought their night was over.

"We walked past a couple of Raleigh policemen, stopped and told them what happened to us," Peter Swenson said.

He says the officers happened to have two comp tickets, a gift from Buble to first responders. They told the couple to hang tight.

“'You can have them, they're at my office, which is two or three minutes away', and he went and got the tickets and gave them to us," Swenson said.

Lee Swenson posted what happened on the Nextdoor app and says more than 1,300 responded to it. She says she wanted the community to know about the officers’ good deeds.

“I thought the police should get recognition for what they did for us," she said.

The Raleigh Police Department has not been able to identify which of their officers did this for the Swensons. The couple wishes they could say "thank you" to them again, in person.

“My only regret is I never got your names because I wanted to thank you personally for what you did and they didn't have to do it," Lee Swenson said.

The Swensons say their credit card company also refunded their tickets due to the fraud.
