RALEIGH, N.C. — If one of your goals is to cut down or completely cut out alcohol in the new year, there’s a social group you may want to join.

Last year, Jacqueline Lee created Zero Proof Raleigh. It's a group designed specifically for people to participate in alcohol-free social events.

What You Need To Know

  • The group is for anyone who wants to participate in alcohol-free activities

  • A full calendar of events is planned for January

  • Past activities included a rock-climbing wall, a sober concert and a mocktail bar at Current Wellness

Lee says people are sober for all kinds of reasons and that there is plenty of support available for people thinking about abstaining.

“The reality is there are tons of people out there who don’t drink who also do not care if you are not drinking," Lee said. "A lot of times I will go out, I just say, 'Oh yeah, I‘m going to take club soda.' Nobody cares."

The group has gone rock climbing, learned how to make mocktails at Current Wellness and attended an alcohol-free concert event. Lee is excited to see the group grow in the new year.

“It was only in my head worrying what people were going to think about it," Lee said. "I feel the healthiest and the happiest I have ever been in my life."

The group has a full event schedule for January available now.
