RALEIGH, N.C. – The Carolina Hurricanes took a major step in their return to play Tuesday morning. Approximately 16 Canes players showed up for the voluntary workouts.

The workouts were split into two separate sessions in accordance with the current Phase 2 guidelines in North Carolina. Several more players joined in on the voluntary workouts on Wednesday.

Carolina continues to prepare for its return to the ice when it faces the New York Rangers in a best-of-5 series when the postseason begins later this summer. Presently, the NHL has not yet released an official schedule for these games to be played.

Team captain Jordan Staal took some time out after Tuesday's practice to discuss with the media how the initial practice played out.
