NORTH CAROLINA -- An area of low pressure continues to organize off of the South Carolina coast, and that low will lift slowly northeast through the weekend.

For coastal parts of the Carolinas, look for lots of rain and wind through the weekend. Winds will be especially significant along the close to the coast, and some gusts over 60mph are possible late today into Sunday morning. Wave heights will be significantly increased, and some beach erosion, overwash, and coastal flooding problems are possible.

Elsewhere in the Carolinas, it will be a mainly sunny weekend for the mountains and foothills. For the Charlotte metro, clouds and shower chances will remain today, but intervals of sun will work in Sunday.

A docile weather setup then looks to unfold for much of the new work week with lots of sun and milder temperatures.
