PEMBROKE, N.C. — On a day when teachers from across the state are rallying for change, Spectrum News anchor Caroline Blair sat down with the head of one of North Carolina’s public higher education institutions. University of North Carolina at Pembroke Chancellor Dr. Robin Gary Cummings, spoke about the decrease in students working to become teachers across the state and the work they’re doing to fix that.

The NC Promise Tuition plan begins this coming fall, and according to Chancellor Cummings, will dramatically drop the tuition rate for some of their future students. The school says the plan will dramatically reduce the cost of undergraduate tuition from $500 for in-state and $2,500 for out-of-state tuition per semester. Cummings says the difference ends up being thousands of dollars, which will help many students graduate with less college debt.

Cummings also discussed a recent $7 million donation to the School of Business, that is helping them reach their $36 million goal that will allow them to renovate and overhaul the program. The school will build a new career center, a fully-quipped auditorium, video conference room, a trading room, lounges, computer lab, multi-media resources center and new study spaces.
