GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. – The Department of Health and Human Services is alerting residents that a raccoon found on Westwood Avenue in High Point tested positive for rabies virus on April 23.

This marks the fourth case of animal rabies in 2018 for the county.

North Carolina law requires that all domestic pets, whether living or outside, age 4 months or older be vaccinated.

Even animals that are confined in outdoor fenced areas should have current rabies vaccinations, because wild animals can get into these areas and attack your pets.

Rabies circulates within and out wildlife populations throughout the entire year.

The best way to protect your family and your pets' safety is to vaccinate your pets.

Check to make sure all of your family pets are properly vaccinated against rabies and get their shots updated.
