WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Police are investigating a fatal accident that sent several children to the hospital.
Authorities say the accident happened on Clemmonsville Road around 8:20 a.m.
The accident occurred when a vehicle lost traction on the road and traveled into the opposite lane, colliding with a second vehicle.
The driver and front seat passenger of the first vehicle, Latonya and Shameka Carter, were both pronounced dead at the scene.
Two juvenile passengers from the first vehicle and one from the second are at Brenner's Children's Hospital being treated for their injuries.
Traffic Enforcement investigators shut down Clemmonsville Road between I-40 and Old Lexington Road.
