HICKORY, N.C. -- A former Hickory police sergeant will stand trial for allegedly using excessive force.

Robert George was recently indicted by a federal grand jury.

  • George allegedly used excessive force to arrest a woman in 2013.
  • He's also accused of lying on a police report.
  • He was fired in 2014. 

He's accused of using excessive force to arrest a woman in November 2013 and lying on a police report.

FBI agents and hickory police arrested him Monday.

He was fired by the department in 2014.

The case is being prosecuted by the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division.
