WINSTON-SALEM -- Winston-Salem State University has a 3D printer to help people with disabilities.

  • The university received the printer earlier this summer after being approved for a $47,000 grant
  • Currently, occupational therapy faculty printed and tested button hooks, utensil holders and pill boxes
  • Looking long term, they want to make prosthetics for people in the community

The university received the printer earlier this summer after being approved for a $47,000 grant.

Currently, occupational therapy faculty printed and tested button hooks, utensil holders and pill boxes.

"I have been recently working on trying to get it incorporated in this semester and the following semester's classes so that we can get the students involved in making these," said Dr. Elizabeth Fain, Winston-Salem State University’s occupational therapy assistant professor.

Looking long term, they want to make prosthetics for people in the community.
