The State Department of Labor on Friday held a packed public hearing in Albany on the tipped wage credit. Tip credits allow restaurants to pay employees at a rate less than the minimum wage, as long as their tips make up the difference. Governor Cuomo has asked the Department of Labor to examine the impact of eliminating that credit while increasing minimum wage. However, not all restaurant owners like this idea.
