PENFIELD, N.Y. — A woman is dead after deputies say she went off the road and crashed into trees in Penfield overnight.

Sheriff's deputies say 53-year-old Cathy Cooper of Penfield was driving south on Route 250 near Whalen Road, around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday when she went off the road and drove about 250 feet before hitting trees.

Cooper was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies say she was the only person in the car.

It's unclear at this time what caused her to crash. Authorities say alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

"Right now we don't know what the cause of the accident is cause that's currently under investigation," said Lt. Scott Alberti, Monroe County Sheriff's Office. "You know sadly someone died as a result of this accident."
