Some good news for Broome County and the ongoing heroin problem -- February marked the first month in five years without any fatal drug overdoses, according to Broome County District Attorney Steve Cornwell.

This continues a somewhat good trend for the county. Last year's overdose death numbers were down 10 from the prior year, at 66.

For comparison, last February saw 11 alone.

The DA thanked those who have joined the fight against this epidemic, but says there's still much more to be done.

Broome County plans to begin offering drug treatment services at the former Broome Developmental Center in less than a month.
