We're a few days into fall, but the summer weather is sticking around a little while longer.

While some may be able to hide out in the air conditioning, others might not have that option. There are a lot of schools across the region that do not have air conditioning, so teachers and administrators have been doing what they can to make students comfortable.

The assistant superintendent in the Windsor school district says their schools have A/C, but it is limited. The buildings recently got air conditioning in the auditorium as part of a capital project, but the district is still working to secure additional units for other rooms.

When temperatures are as hot as they have been, teachers will allow water bottles and fans in the room to help students cool off. Administrators says it’s all about keeping students comfortable and safe.

“We always monitor the heat index, wind chill, wind advisory as well,” said Windsor Assistant Superintendent of Business and Services Andrew Fiorentino. "One of the main things as far as when the heat index is up is to keep the kids hydrated -- again, making sure they have water with them. They can have water with them in the classes and so forth. We have fans going."

Many classrooms also have water fountains for students to stay hydrated. Some districts also cancel after-school athletic events to keep the kids safe.
