A Chenango Forks farm is cleaning up from a destructive fire.

A tractor started a fire at Dutch Hill Creamery's Aukema Farm Tuesday night. Owners say the hay will continue to smolder for more than a week. Nearly 80 cows escaped safely, but the dairy barn is a total loss.

Farmers came from four counties to help move the cattle, and the family is grateful for the community's support.

"I just want to thank everybody that was here that helped in any way," said Pat Aukema, the co-owner of Aukema Farm. "The firemen, nearly eight or nine companies until 2 o'clock this morning. And all of our farmer friends and neighbors, just everybody. Thank you to all of them."

No people or animals were injured in the fire. The family will discuss the farm's future in the coming days. There is a GoFundMe set up to assist the family.
