NEW YORK - Talk about baking and breaking a world record.

Several restaurants on Thursday helped iconic vegetable brand Green Giant cook up a 637-pound green bean casserole inside Macy's at Herald Square.

It took 780 cans of green beans, 53 cans of mushroom soup, 32 quarts of milk and 65 pounds of French fried onions.

Organizers say cooking was actually the easy part.

"The cooking thing acutally doesn't take as long if you've got really large format things which we conveniently do because we have a commercial kitchen space. It's more the logistic pieces, getting all this together, getting this beast mode in here and all those other peices in here that's the hardest part if you will," said Stella 34 General Manager Matthew Gardiner.

City Meals and Wheels will dish out the casserole to 2,000 New Yorkers in need.
