NEW YORK - Today show co-host Matt Lauer has been fired following allegations of inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace.

NBC Chairman Andy Lack confirmed the veteran's termination saying it stems from a "detailed complaint from a colleague."

He went on to say, "While it is the first complaint about his behavior in the over 20 years he's been at NBC News, we were also presented with reason to believe this may not have been an isolated incident."

President Donald Trump wasted no time reacting to the news.

In a tweet he said, "Wow, Matt Lauer was just fired from NBC for “inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace.” But when will the top executives at NBC & Comcast be fired for putting out so much Fake News. Check out Andy Lack’s past!"

He followed that up with a tweet saying, "So now tha Matt Lauer is gone when will the Fake News practitioners at NBC be terminating the contract of Phil Griffin? And will they terminate low ratings Joe Scarborough based on the “unsolved mystery” that took place in Florida years ago? Investigate!"

NY1 spoke with New Yorkers outside Rockefeller Center shortly after news of Lauer's firing emerged.

"I think everyone is trying to do the right thing, listening to the voices of women and I think it's right thing to do to take it seriously for once," said one passerby.

"That's kinda a blow. Matt Lauer is a fixture on NBC but all these allegations I'm a little bit torn as a female, every allegation isn't always true. Is it substantive, is there fact behind it?" asked another passerby.

Lauer has been the co-host of Today since 1997.

He has not spoken out on his dismissal.
