Sandra Lahrache was shocked and disappointed to learn NBC's Matt Lauer was the latest to be fired, a week after CBS dumped its morning anchor Charlie Rose for the same thing.

She says they, and those like them, are people that are looked up to and trusted. Lahrache described those who've come forward as brave and empowered, and believes the national uptick will trickle down locally and empower more people to step up.

Lahrache is the founder of The Teal Project, a not-for-profit group that educates students across Western New York about issues like assault, rape and consent in an effort to prevent and lower the number of incidents.

She says there are a lot of subjects that are blurry for students and teaching them about the dangers early will help prevent them from preforming such criminal acts later in life.

"Redirect the shame and the blame onto the perpetrators of these crimes. It just takes that one voice. We're seeing a tremendous change right now where people are speaking up and people are listening." said Lahrache.
