ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Like most cities, Rochester has a tree that it lights up for the community to enjoy around the holidays. Unlike most cities, that tree is made out of kegs.

In recent years, the Genesee Brewery's keg tree has become a Rochester holiday tradition as cherished as any.

Workers say it takes two full days to construct the 27-feet tall installation. At three-stories high and with 430 empty kegs, the Genny tree is the same size as last year's.

This year, the tree features more than 2,000 lights which are synced to flicker with six different holiday tunes.

The lighting of the tree is at 7 p.m. Friday and the community is invited to attend the brewery's annual celebration. There will be food and beer available at the lighting ceremony, including a special release called Keg Tree Ale — a 7.5 percent alcohol version of a Scotch Ale, aged in bourbon barrels. It's a limited batch and only available while supplies last.

Can't be there live for the festivities? No worries, Spectrum News will be airing the tree lighting live on Friday night.
