SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Caitlyn Frisina is back in Florida with her family after she was first reported missing more than a week ago.

“She's a 17-year-old high school student I feel was influenced by someone who was in control in a supervisory role,” said Columbia County Sheriff Mark Hunter.

That someone, authorities say, was her 27-year-old soccer coach, Rian Rodriguez. According to a Columbia County Sheriff's warrant affidavit, friends believed Frisina and Rodriguez were in a relationship. Frisina's father also found lewd Snapchat messages between the two.

On Friday, a New York State Trooper found both of them in a Salina parking lot.

“We immediately notified, of course, the sheriff's department down in Florida, who immediately notified the parents,” said State Police PIO Jack Keller.

After both were questioned, Rodriguez was taken to jail. On Monday, Rodriguez signed a waiver of extradition in Onondaga County Court. Lawyers say it was a pretty standard procedure.

“For an extradition case, it has very little, if anything, to do with innocence or guilt or the facts of underlying circumstances; just simply a question of whether there's a valid warrant and how to deal with a warrant,” said Rian Rodriguez's lawyer, Charles Keller.

“If you don't waive extradition as he did this morning, then it would be Florida's responsibility to get a governor's warrant,” said Onondaga County Senior Assistant District Attorney Jeremy Cali.

In Florida, Caitlyn's parents are happy to have their daughter home for the holidays.

“We are looking forward to a very merry Christmas, and an extremely bright future for Caitlyn and our family,” said Caitlyn's mother, Scarlet Frisina.

Rodriguez is being held at the Onondaga County Justice Center, and within two weeks, authorities from Florida will be here to pick him up. From there, the case will be dealt with in Florida.
