Daniel William Michaels died early Saturday morning. The 18-year-old was a freshman from Dix Hills, studying business economics.

Oneonta Police say they were called to a home just after midnight Saturday and found Michaels unconscious. He was taken to the hospital, where he went into cardiac arrest and died nearly one hour later.

Officials say the preliminary toxicology report shows Michaels consumed multiple drugs and alcohol. They are waiting for the full toxicology report now.

Oneonta's police chief is warning other students to be careful, especially at such a young age.

"Your brain is still developing, but your body is as well and may not know your limitations as well as you think you do," said Oneonta Police Chief Douglas Brenner. "It's just such a loss, such a bad loss, and a preventable loss, which is probably what hurts more."

Officials are still conducting interviews as a part of their investigation.
