OWEGO, N.Y. — National Wreaths Across America Day is a national movement to remember those who gave their life for our country.

Community members in Owego took part in the event Saturday, placing wreaths on the graves of fallen servicemen and women.

The event is a reminder to never forget those who fought and died for our freedom.

Owego has held the event for the last 11 years.

One Gold Star mother says the support has been wonderful.

"Our community, for ten years, has been phenomenal to us. We would not have survived had we not had this community. And not just Owego, not just Tioga, Broome County, the people around us that we worked for, and really nationally. When people know that we're a Gold Star family, they treat us just wonderfully," said Barbara Bilbrey, Gold Star mother.

As part of this year's event, more than 1.5 million wreaths were expected to be placed at participating locations nationwide.
