CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. — It’s an assignment fit for a King.

This specially trained canine and his handler, David Capretto, spend their days keeping travelers safe as they pass through the Buffalo Niagara International Airport.

Soon, they’ll be the ones taking off, flying to Minnesota to provide “a second layer of defense” at the Super Bowl next month.

During their daily rounds, Capretto and King make eight rounds of BNIA’s terminal, sniffing out safety hazards and greeting passengers.

“They’re expecting a million-plus people to visit the different venues and then there are probably 60,000 to 70,000 in the stadium” during February’s NFL finale, Capretto said.

It’s just another day’s work for King, who, along with Capretto, will be making their second trip to the big game.

There will be nearly 100 other dog teams in Minneapolis, including another from Western New York, working to ensure the safety of football fans.
