ITHACA, N.Y. — The community is reacting to the offensive graffiti found at the Ithaca Skate Park last week.

Police, city officials and other residents painted over the graffiti involving hate speech Saturday night.

Officers were first notified Friday morning of the offensive spray paint on the park's skating slopes and sidewalks.

They're still trying to figure out who did it and when.

Police say this incident doesn't represent the Ithaca community, but some residents say this wasn't really that unexpected.

"I'm sad to say I'm not surprised. Disappointed. But I think, I used to live in a lot of big cities and moving to Ithaca it's definitely less diverse so I think there's a lot less cultural awareness,” says Asha, an Ithaca resident.

But Ithaca Police Public Information Officer Jamie Williamson says, "It needed to be cleaned up, it needed to be taken down right away. Simply, again, because it doesn't represent what we as a police department or the City of Ithaca as a whole. Doesn't represent any of us, our thoughts, our activities or society."
