DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. – These dog houses are doing more than providing homes to animals. They're raising funds for retired k-9 officers and underprivileged kids in Davidson County.

High Point Canine Solutions invited individuals and businesses to build unique indoor or outdoor dog houses that were auctioned off at Saturday's fundraiser. All proceeds will benefit Backpack Beginnings, the Go Far program, the Davidson County Animal Alliance and Canine Solutions.

"In a lot of the cities through North Carolina, they don't have a retired fund so when these dogs are retired they're sold for a dollar to the officer and then those liabilities are taken over by the officer for health care, vaccinations, and as these dogs get older and older these costs fall over on these officers. So we're trying to create a fund to help off-set these," John Grein, founder of High Point Canine Solutions, said.

Organizers say their original goal was to get 30 dog houses. They doubled that goal, and auctioned off 60 dog houses.
