BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- A new law proposed in Broome County is calling for greater financial reporting and transparency for the public.

Thursday, county Legislature Chairman Daniel Reynolds introduced his "Daylight Legislation."

He says it would ensure that taxpayers’ money is being spent wisely and give the legislature accurate and up-to-date information regarding county finances.

The law also includes a provision that requires the County Legislature publish financial reports on the county website.

"This legislation will formalize the process, it will take the politics out of it, and we'll be able to just get consistent information on a regular basis, and legislators will be able to make better decisions, the county executive and their office should be able to make better decisions, and the public's going to be better informed,” Reynolds said.

The law is being considered Friday by the Broome County Administration and Finance Committees.
