Some livestock were killed on Interstate 86 after a tractor-trailer hauling cows overturned Friday morning in Chemung County.

Authorities say roughly 38 cows were in the truck when it happened in the eastbound lane near the Elmira exit, and that seven cows escaped and were wandering on the side of the highway.

Officials did not have the exact number of cows that died in the crash.

Part of the highway was shut down while crews worked to clear the crash scene. Traffic has since been reopened, and there is currently no word on what could have caused the crash or if any people were injured.
