Democrat and former state Senator Terry Gipson has withdrawn from the upcoming governor's race.

This comes after "Sex and the City" star Cynthia Nixon announced that she is running for office.

Gipson did not directly endorse Nixon’s campaign, but spoke of working with her in the coming months -- saying she has the ability to defeat Governor Andrew Cuomo in the September primary.

In a statement on his website Gipson said:

" I’m proud of what we have achieved, and I am looking forward to working with Ms. Nixon and everyone else who shares my commitment to making government work better for all the people of New York state.”
