A former Cornell student, who once stood trial for murder, will now face new charges in the case.

Charlie Tan has been re-indicted by a federal grand jury.

Charges stem from the purchase of a shotgun used in the killing of his father "Jim" Tan back in 2015.

Now, the son is accused of making false statements when buying the firearm.

Tan was originally tried for murder, but the case was dismissed by a judge for a lack of evidence.

Prosecutors say the new indictment involves someone who apparently purchased a Remington Shotgun for Tan from a Cortland Wal-Mart.

That person, Whitney Knickerbocker has not been charged and is expected to testify at Tan's upcoming trial, which is expected to start June 25th.
