An Oswego County man who killed a small child in a hit and run in Fulton decades ago was killed Friday saving children from a hit-and-run driver at a baseball game in Sanford, Maine.

Witnesses say 51-year-old Carol Sharrow drove onto a baseball field and started driving around the infield.

To protect the children, two people tried to close and lock a metal gate.

Douglas Parkhurst, 68, was hit and killed at that gate.

Sharrow has been charged with manslaughter.

Parkhurst was involved in his own deadly hit-and-run incident back in 1968.

Carolee Ashby, 4, was struck and killed that year on Halloween Night in Fulton.

For years, the case went unsolved before police decided to make a post on Facebook looking for tips back in 2012.

A Florida woman came forward with new information and Parkhurst was questioned.

He admitted he believed that he hit Ashby that night, but no charges could be filed because the statute of limitations had run out.
