ITHACA, N.Y. -- Democratic gubernatorial candidate Cynthia Nixon made a stop in Ithaca -- after her campaign was criticized for misspelling the city's name.

On Friday, an email was sent to supporters inviting them to attend this weekend's event. However, Ithaca was spelled “ITHICA.”

Some called out Nixon's campaign for not knowing enough about Upstate New York.

She did poke fun at the incident on Sunday night, but the main focus was addressing the heroin epidemic.

"It's stigmatized drug use and it's taken it out of where it should be, which is the medical community.  We have an epidemic across the country and we need to address it and we need to stop the deaths,” Nixon said.

Nixon also announced her support for safe injection sites, saying they're a way to stop the deaths, and get people into treatment.

Ithaca's mayor has long been an advocate of that approach to fighting drug abuse
