While there's has been some good news recently in the fight against opioids in Broome County, the work is far from over.

Truth Pharm founder Alexis Pleus is one of three individuals to receive the Phoenix Award. It's given to unsung heroes in the community who go above and beyond to make it a better place.

"The epidemic is still ongoing, it's still real, people are still dying. So I don't feel like I've accomplished enough yet, but I'm really grateful, said Pleus."

Truth Pharm helps educate, advocate and take action against substance use, hoping to get rid of the stigma associated with it. In 2017, there were 66 overdose deaths recorded in Broome County.

The county's District Attorney recently announced there were zero overdose deaths this past May.
