A former convenience store owner now faces robbery charges.

Ahmed Alshami, 38, was arrested by Buffalo Police after he allegedly demanded money from the 7-Eleven on East Lovejoy Street.

He’s facing charges of first degree robbery, using a dangerous instrument and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon with intent to use. He was arraigned in Buffalo City Court Wednesday and is due back in court on December 11.

Alshami is the owner of the now-shuttered IGA Community Express Mart on Ludington Street in Buffalo. He was sentenced to six months in jail and five months’ probation earlier this year on charges of welfare fraud and burglary.

Alshami admitted to buying food stamps from customers, often at half-value, buying groceries and other goods at supermarkets to replenish the shelves in his store.
