The Erie County Department of Health is now updating their quarantine measures based on new CDC guidelines.

These new recommendations apply to those who have either been exposed to someone who tests positive for COVID-19 or have traveled to a state other than those neighboring New York.

There are two ways you can be exempt from quarantine, and that's if you're either fully vaccinated or have fully recovered from the virus.

However, there is criteria that must be met:

  • If you are fully vaccinated, meaning it’s been at least two weeks since you were given the vaccine — whether that is a two-dose or single-dose shot
  • You are within 90 days of receiving the vaccine
  • You are asymptomatic since the COVID-19 exposure or completing your vaccine

You may not qualify if you have traveled internationally, including Canada, are a fully-vaccinated hospitalized person, or fully-vaccinated health care resident.

Meanwhile, if you have recovered from the laboratory confirmed virus, you must have met the criteria to end isolation:

  • You are within the first 90 days following the onset of symptoms or first positive COVID-19 test
  • You are asymptomatic since the new exposure
