BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Liberty Yellow Cab announced it will service all of Western New York, including downtown Buffalo on New Year's Eve for pick-ups and drop-offs.

Earlier this month, Liberty announced it would not let its cabs operate in downtown Buffalo because cab companies are at a disadvantage to ride-hailing companies like Uber and Lyft due to different regulations for pricing and insurance requirements.

Taxi companies are also unhappy about the ride-hailing pickups zones, like the one near KeyBank Center.

That's because Uber and Lyft don't have to pay the same fees to the city.

But now company owner Bill Yuhnke says the boycott has been called off after being contacted by State Senator Chris Jacobs and in the interest of public safety.

His pleas to establish a level playing field between cab companies and ride-hailing services, though, remain unchanged.
