BUFFALO, N.Y. — Stop the Violence Coalition President Murray Holman says it was a chaotic scene on East Delavan just after 5 p.m. Saturday.

"The car veered through here, I seen the babies over there, they sitting over there on the side over there, and cars were pulling up and young ladies were grabbing their kids, their babies, from newborns all the way down. Seems like one might be 6, 7, 8 or 9 years old," said Holman.

According to Buffalo Police, a 17-year-old woman in the car was taken to ECMC suffering from a gunshot wound. She's listed in good condition.

Holman says this latest shooting incident is particularly disturbing.

"When you start just blatantly just start shooting and don't care who's in the car and babies in there? That's not usual. That's crazy, that's chaos," said Holman.

The shooting was just one of five shootings in the city since Friday. One person was shot in the 300 block of Herkimer around 3 p.m. Friday. Police say a man was shot and killed in the 200 block of Langfield Avenue around 1 a.m. Saturday.

A few hours later, there was a shooting at the corner of College and Allen Streets. Peter Pena, 36, is charged in that shooting.

Police also are investigating another shooting that happened early Sunday morning in the 300 block of Pearl Street. The victim, a 29-year-old man, is listed in serious condition.

According to Buffalo Police, there have been 12 homicides this year compared to 18 for this same time last year. Holman worries the number will continue to rise if something isn't done now about gun violence.

"It's time for us to say ‘stop, that's it.’ Accountability comes with us. Not the mayor, not the Buffalo Police Department. Accountability falls on us. And that's what we've got to stand up for," said Holman.
