BUFFALO, N.Y. — It's been one year since an officer-involved shooting killed Jose Hernandez-Rossy in Buffalo's Black Rock neighborhood.

On Monday afternoon, near the spot where he died, his loved ones held a vigil and a rally demanding justice.

According to a lengthy report from the state attorney general, officers were justified in shooting the 26-year-old because they believed he was armed and shooting at them.

No weapons were found at the scene.

Hernandez-Rossy's death came just a few months after that of 20-year-old Wardel "Meech" Davis, who also died in police custody.

"The demands are pretty simple. Officers who cannot do their jobs and cannot execute a stop effectively should not be working. One of the officers in Jose's case was actually promoted recently,” said Natasha Soto, founder of Black Love Resists in the Rust.

The Hernandez-Rossy family is now suing the officers, the city and the police department.

The Buffalo Police Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
