BUFFALO, N.Y. — A man with a history of attacking women is once again facing jail time for allegedly assaulting and injuring a female victim.

John Jaycox, 50, was arraigned Tuesday morning and pleaded not guilty to first-degree attempted murder and first-degree attempted sexual abuse.

Back in March, prosecutors say Jaycox attacked a 60-year-old woman inside the Choco Logo chocolate shop on Broadway. The victim's son was able to pull Jaycox off his mother and held him down until police arrived.

Jaycox had just been released from prison two months earlier, after serving 17 years in prison for attacking an 81-year-old woman in the late 1990s as he robbed a Buffalo church.

"Even if he didn't have a criminal history, the allegations and what I'm charging him with are so serious and so disturbing to me that I need to make sure I get a conviction here and put this man away for the rest of his life, hopefully," said Erie County District Attorney John Flynn. He added that there's no apparent connection between the victim and Jaycox.

If convicted, Jaycox could face 25 years to life in prison. He's scheduled to be back in court on May 29.
