BUFFALO, N.Y. — Plenty of eyes were on the royal wedding Saturday as Prince Harry married American actress Meghan Markle.

Many in the Queen City kept a closer eye and ear on Buffalo-native Episcopalian Bishop Michael Curry, who gave a soul-stirring sermon that lasted nearly 14 minutes.

True Bethel Baptist Church Pastor Darius Pridgen told Spectrum News he is not surprised by all the positive reception Curry is getting.

"Today he was probably watched more than the Pope,” said Pridgen, who added it was one of the greatest sermons he had heard to date. “I think that's exciting when you can have world leaders and religion and it goes beyond color and it really dealt with their heart."

Matters of the heart and love for your fellow man were the focus of Curry’s sermon.

“Let us love one another because love is of God and those who love are born of God and know God. Those who do not love do not know God. Why? For God is Love," said Curry as he quoted biblical scripture.

Curry was ordained at Saint Paul’s Cathedral in 1978 and elected as the Episcopal Church’s first black leader three years ago.

"I think he made a huge impact and began the life the two royals have dedicated to what their marriage is going to be about: really helping mankind,” said Pridgen. “I think this will be talked about for at least a decade.”
