LOCKPORT, NY. – A new program in Lockport has been a total knockout for kids looking for a fun summer activity.

JT’s Boxing Club wants to help build connections and self-esteem among youth in Western New York.

Head coach Joe Taylor is a light heavyweight boxer and fighter from Lockport, following in the footsteps of his father, who used to box at the Aud in Buffalo.

Taylor just signed with one of the largest kick-boxing organizations, Glory.

In between fights, Taylor trains kids and teenagers at his gym on Walnut Street.

"If you have the opportunity to give back, give back,” said Taylor.  “Yes, I am a pro-fighter. Yes, I could be focused on my career, but the most important thing is the future. The kids : having something to do. A mentor: someone to show them the right thing to do."

JT’s Boxing Club sees at least 100 kids in their classes throughout the week.

That number is growing with more children coming from a local group home, the city of Rochester and Buffalo.

Taylor says he has been able to offer free classes to underpriviledged children with the help of sponsors.
