BUFFALO, N.Y. — World-renowned aerialist Nik Wallenda returned to Western New York Thursday to walk on a high-wire across the campus at D’Youville College.

The stunt was part of the grand opening of the college’s new Healthcare Professionals Hub, a building that will provide primary care to Buffalo’s West Side residents as well as hands-on learning for students.

“We will be able to upscale the community and we will be able to provide simulation training for students all of the other health care providers that are in Western New York and beyond,” said Ryan Miller, an onlooker at the event.

Wallenda is known for crossing Niagara Falls 11 years ago, and later crossing the Grand Canyon. He comes from a family of acrobats.

Thursday’s walk from the Montante Library building to the new hub was five stories high and 320 feet long, the longest in the city of Buffalo, but an easy feat for Wallenda.
