The cleanup continues on Madison Avenue in Albany after four homes are destroyed by fire. Now the homes are in the process of being demolished and investigators are trying to figure out what caused it. Barry Wygel has the latest.
ALBANY, N.Y. -- More than a dozen people have been displaced after a massive fire on Madison Avenue in Albany Monday night -- and two fire fighters were taken to the hospital for minor injuries related to battling the flames.
Officials say five row houses are affected from the fire that broke out just before 9 p.m.
Four of those structures had to be demolished yesterday afternoon.
Albany's fire chief says the fire appears to have started on the second floor of home 406.
Fire crews are still investigating the cause of the fire, but say that fighting it took a lot of manpower.
"At one point you just thought this fire was never going to go out. All the water and all the resources on it and to still see those flames. It took a lot of effort. We're really focussed now on ensuring that families have a place to stay,” said Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan.
Homeowners are receiving help finding temporary housing and removing any belongings they can salvage.
