SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Details have been released about the man police believe shot three people Tuesday on Union Street in Schenectady, including two young children.

According to court documents, there was a domestic incident at the same Union Street residence back in April.

DeShawn Howard was expected to appear in court Monday on charges stemming from that incident. Documents show he was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and assault for allegedly punching his girlfriend.

Spectrum News talked to a close friend of the family about the alleged incident.

"Two months ago, she called me, said she couldn't make it to a job interview because he had beat her up. I said to her 'what's the address to your house?' because he was there with the baby. I called the cops, he got arrested,” said Dawn Rapp, a daycare provider.

Those charges are the latest on a long rap sheet for Howard. He's spent time behind bars for robbery, drug possession, and weapons charges.

Howard's currently recovering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound that happened moments before police took him into custody.

Police have not yet filed charges.

All three victims who were shot are also in stable condition.
