The United States Supreme Court has agreed to review the corruption case against Joe Percoco, who was an aide and confidante to former Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

Percoco was convicted of public corruption in 2018 and served time in prison. He has since been released.

The U.S. Second Circuit Court of Appeals has upheld the conviction twice despite challenges from Percoco’s lawyers, who argued that he could not have been convicted of public corruption since he was a private citizen at the time. Percoco was working for Cuomo’s campaign for reelection at the time, and not for the government.

The Supreme Court has struck down at least portions of public corruption cases in recent years, including the scheme to block New Jersey traffic to the George Washington Bridge in 2013, a scandal known as "Bridgegate."
